Home to LaGuardia Airport, East Elmhurst is a residential neighborhood with a lot to offer. Just above Jackson Heights, this area is home to a lot of history and diversity. LaGuardia might be a big part of this neighborhood, but it's far from the only thing here.
From pre-colonization all the way up to the 1900's, East Elmhurst was marshland known as Trains Meadow. Due to the exploding population of Queens, the land was developed in 1909 so other people would have a place to live.
One of the original attractions in the neighborhood was Gala Amusement Park. The park ran until 1929 when it was demolished to make room for the first airport in the neighborhood, which was a private flying space. The private airport was transformed into LaGuardia Airport in 1939.
In the 1960's and 70's, homeownership in the area exploded and made the neighborhood extremely diverse. Today, East Elmhurst is prosperous and busy, with people coming to the neighborhood…
