Surrounded by Flatbush, Midwood, Marine Park, and Georgetown, this peaceful residential neighborhood is home to some of NYC's most elite members. Though far away from the rest of the city, residents here love the privacy and space this neighborhood affords them.
Flatlands development came very late in NYC's history. When it was colonized by the Dutch, the neighborhood was farmland, and remained that way for centuries. Annexed by Brooklyn in 1896, it soon became part of NYC in 1898 when Brooklyn became part of Greater New York City.
The area wasn't fully developed until the 1980's. Before then, progress was slow, with homes and historic buildings making up the majority of the neighborhood. Today, Flatlands is a haven for the wealthy and middle class of the city.
