WHITESTONE
In the northernmost part of Queens, directly above Flushing,
Whitestone is a calm residential neighborhood with two bridges,
tons to eat, and a ton of space for those seeking to live here.
Broken up into several sub-sections, Whitestone is an out of the
way haven for the wealthy, middle class, and working class
alike.
Fun Facts and History of
Whitestone
Whitestone began its colonial life as the estate of founding
father, Frances Lewis. Said estate was even ransacked during the
American Revolution. After the war, the land was sold to wealthy
families so that they may also build large estates there.
Urban development didn't begin until the 1920's when railroads
and bridges were constructed in the area. A separate, more upscale
part of the neighborhood, known as Malba, remained larger family
homes with yards, many of which still stand to this day.
Further development from highways connecting The Bronx to Queens
and the rest of Long Island helped develop the neighborhood
further…
