Diverse, beautiful, and cultural, Corona is a Queens neighborhood that provides opportunity and peace. Surrounded by Jackson Heights, Forest Hills, and Flushing Meadows Corona Park, Corona has a lot to offer when it comes to housing, food, and outdoor activities.
The origin of the name "Corona" is a bit of a mystery. Originally called West Flushing, the general consensus is that the name appeared in 1872 due to a real estate developer deeming the neighborhood as "The Crown of Queens."
In 1858, Corona was the site of the first baseball game to charge admission, and the neighborhood had only been created four years prior. After the name change in 1872, Corona had middling popularity for decades. However, starting in the 1940's, many black civil rights leaders, athletes, musicians, and artists moved to the area, making it a cultural hotbed for the Civil Rights movement.
