The RentHop HopScore takes into account over 100 parameters when ranking listings in our search results. While the formula is constantly changing, it is not a black box deep learning algorithm. Our team of engineers and real estate experts deliberately design all of the model features, then we use machine learning methods to train and tweak.
In the past year, we have rapidly grown on all fronts. More renters are coming, and in turn more landlords, agents, and brokers have joined the platform. It is a positive network effect from our many efforts maintaining high quality listings while connecting many renters and managers.
We’ve recently made one purposeful modification to the HopScore. Listings showing the full address get an even higher bonus than in the past. Both broker exclusives and For Rent By Owner listings are growing, and when priced properly, they are often the best deals on the market. The “seller” is highly motivated, especially in a lease break or condo sublet situation, and you can easily score a below-market listing. Co-op sublets are also great deals, but often require jumping through a few hoops like a board packet.
