How to Feng Shui Your Bedroom

When it comes to decorating your bedroom, there’s so much you can do. However, when you’re decorating a bedroom you should definitely consider abiding by the principles of the Chinese philosophical system, Feng Shui. This is the idea of harmonizing everyone and everything with its surrounding environment to promote peace, relaxation, and positive energy.ย

While some Feng Shui tips might seem to be too much to actually incorporate, here areย 7 easy tips to Feng Shui your bedroom. This will be the first article in a four part series.ย

1. Pay Attention to Where You Position Your Bed

One of the most important considerations to make in regards to the Feng Shui of your bedroom is where you position your bed. Sounds strange how the position of your bed can affect the energy in your bedroom but it’s true.ย The bed should be positioned as far away from the door as possible, while still maintaining a line of sight of the door. You should also have your bed approachable on each side. Having your bed in the correct position can also help ward of bad and evil spirits according to Chinese culture.

2. Your Bedroom Shouldnโ€™t Double as a Multi-Purpose Room

There is no greater killer of good Feng Shui in a bedroom than the presence of things that interfere with the energy. These include things like a TV, exercise equipment, work desk, etc. Your bedroom should be a place for rest and romance, thatโ€™s it. Unnecessary items serve as simple distractions and can easily suck up all the energy in the room. Also, cluttering your bedroom with unnecessary items and furniture will make the bedroom feel less like a bedroom and more like a multi-purpose room.ย

3. Choose Art Carefully

Creativity is the spice of life and barren walls in a room are simply boring.ย So while art is okay in the bedroom of course, you want to be fairly careful when selecting it. It’s recommended to select pieces of art that reflect things that you want to have happen in your own life. For example, choosing artwork that is related to the positive emotions of happiness and love is the right way to go. In addition to this, nature images can also help to promote a calming atmosphere. The name of the game when it comes to artwork in your bedroom is making sure it makes you feel happy, calm, and relaxed as the bedroom is a place for all those emotions to flourish.

4. Use Calming Colors

When choosing colors, many different considerations should be made before you land on what color you want your bedroom to be. The colors in your room can greatly influence your psyche as well as the Feng Shui of the room. It’s recommended that calming and welcoming colors are used throughout the bedroom. Skin colors (such as peach, tan, browns, creams, and whites) are all great options, as are soft colors like light blues and greens. Keeping the colors quiet and warming is the name of the game here.

5.ย Quality Air is Important

You’re unable to attain good Feng Shui in your bedroom if the air is stale and full of potential harmful particles. Keeping the air fresh can be an amazing way to feel more rejuvenated and relaxed. There are a few different ways that you can promote fresh air in your bedroom and these include open windows, essential oils, and plants (as long as they are located fairly far away from the bed). Some believe that any plants in the bedroom can create bad Feng Shui. We agree with that statement if you’re surrounding yourself in plants. One single small plant however can be a great way to increase positive energy.ย

6. Keep it Simple and Clutter-Free

In the modern day and age, people simply have too much stuff. This often leads to our homes being full of clutter. Let’s face it, when getting home from a long day at the office the last thing you want to be greeted by is a cluttered bedroom.ย ย According to Feng Shui, clutter is a symbol of things not being finished, which can stop us from progressing in life. Also, by having the room laid out fairly simple without any clutter, the chi is able to flow throughout the room without running into things laying around everywhere.

7. Various Levels of Lighting

Light is one of the strongest manifestation of energy and there is an appropriate level of lighting for every situation. That is why it is important to include various different levels (and sources) of lighting in your bedroom. Opting for things like candles and a large stream of natural light are the best options, but if that is not possible, having dimming lights is a good substitute. Making the bedroom a relaxing and intimate environment is made much easier when your lighting is under control.
