CUNY Bernard M Baruch College Apartments for Rent in New York, NY

About the University and City

Named after financier and statesman Bernard M. Baruch, Bernard College is one of the twelve senior (four-year) college of the City University of New York system (CUNY). The CUNY system, not to be confused with the SUNY (State University of New York system), is the third largest university system in the United States in terms of enrollment. Notable Alumni include Ralph Lauren, Jennifer Lopez, and Upton Sinclair.

The college currently has more than 18,000 students, of whom speak more than 110 languages and over 164 countries are currently being represented on campus. Fun fact, Baruch has been recognized as the most ethnically diverse campus in the nation by both the U.S. News & World Report and the Princeton Review more times than any other college in the United States.

Where are the academic buildings?

Baruch is located in the Park Avenue South area of Manhattan and close to many major subway lines such as Penn Station and Grand Central Terminal. The campus stretches from East 22nd street to East 25th street. The academic buildings are located in between Third Avenue and Lexington Avenue. There are six academic buildings affiliated with Baruch located in this location. Most Baruch College students are expected to make the commute to get to classes via public transit, bike or by feet. Many students will rent out lockers on campus to store extra textbooks or supplies.

Where are the residence halls?

The Baruch College Residence Life currently only offers one co-ed residence hall located at 1760 Third Avenue (between 98th and 97th Street on Third Avenue). Travel time between the residence hall and main campus is around a 20 to 25 minute subway ride on the Green 4, 5, 6, line. The residence hall currently houses over 1,100 students from colleges all over the city. Baruch housing at 1760 Third Avenue currently has 240 students living there.

While it is not a requirement to live on-campus (in fact most students commute), full-time registered ungraduated students at Baruch College are allowed to stay in the residence hall for as long as they renew their license agreements on an annual basis and are accepted into the housing system.

Where do students live other than dorms?

Not planning on living in one of the Residence Halls provided by Baruch College? You are not missing out on anything! As a commuter school, other than the 240 students who live in student housing, the rest of Baruch students are either living with their parents, by themselves, or with a roommate. The more popular neighborhoods to live in include Queens, Brooklyn, or upper Manhattan (Fun fact: over 24% of students live in Queens and 26% of students live in Brooklyn). Regardless of where you choose to live, transportation is rarely an issue.

Where do alums live if they stay in the city?

For alums who continue staying in the city, most are spread throughout Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens. Some popular neighborhoods in Manhattan for alums include Hell's Kitchen, Financial District, Upper West/East Side, and neighborhoods in Brooklyn. While there is no statistic on where most alums stay after graduation, we estimate that most end up staying within the State of New York.
