How Chivalrous Is Your New York Neighborhood?

Murray Hill receives more flower deliveries than any neighborhood in New York City

Here at RentHop weโ€™re wondering how the next few months will unfold. Weโ€™ve all been busy this wedding season, attending ceremonies of friends and family, giving toasts and dancing with our loved ones. With engagement season just around the corner, we wanted to do some research to see patterns in the cityโ€™s love life. We got hold of some floral sales data fromย 1-800Flowers subsidiary: Florists.com, โ€œa gifting company that was founded on two principles: affordability and reliability.โ€ Our dataset goes back approximately two years, from August 2014 through July 2016. This does not include purchases made from other floral delivery services or local florists.

We found that your zip code and your partnerโ€™s zip code have a lot to do with the likelihood of sending or receiving flowers. We looked at how much people spend in each NYC zip code, at which months have the most overall purchases, and what the average price point for floral sales is. So, if you believe gift giving (and flower-giving in particular) is what love is made of, read on and weโ€™ll dive into the data.
