Don't shame me but I'll admit that I use these reviews to make decisions but almost never leave one but I just had to for this... Tal is awesome! I moved here last year from California where we do things quite a bit differently and somewhat overwhelming. I found my current place on my own and it was rough and saw things about fees and brokers and swore I'd be fine on my own. When I started looking for my new place I was hesitant to do anything with a broker but after meeting Tal I realized how wrong I was about letting a broker help because he made the whole process super easy and found me a place that had literally everything I asked for and more. Tal was the first broker I''ve ever worked with in my life. Previously, I had always been happy finding good places to rent by myself. When I decided to move to NYC, one of my friends mentioned that she had a great experience with a broker and asked if I wanted to talk to him. My first thought was "probably not", but I figured I had nothing to lose so I asked for his (Tal''s) contact info. I had a call with Tal and was upfront with him about my skepticism with working with a broker. I honestly just didn''t see a reason to work with one given that I''d been fine without one my entire life. However, he seemed very kind (as my friend had said), was very patient in answering all of my questions, and not at all offended about my direct line of questioning, including understanding his incentive structure or asking him to explain the benefits of working with a broker. I was unsure after our first call so I did some more research online about working with brokers in general and thought of more questions. I asked him for another call the next day and we talked for another half hour. What tipped me over the edge to decide to work with him was that he told me "he likes to invest in long-term relationships with clients". Although I had to take his word for it (and my friend''s positive referral, which was a meaningful indicator), I took a chance and said yes. My decision was made easier by the fact that I was moving across the country and that there were no fees on my side whatsoever. I sent a detailed email to Tal with all of the places that I was considering and notes on the kinds of spaces and requirements I had. He planned an 11a-4pm day of tours for me when I visited and we saw about 30 units in 9 buildings. It was a long day but gave me a very good sense of the options. I could also tell that he took my email to heart and tailored the tour for types of units that I would like. I walked away that day with one unit that I loved and another one that I liked and would also consider. We talked further and he offered to show me more units the next day, so we met again and he showed me 6-7 buildings and about 20 units. I really appreciated his willingness to show me even more apartments, even though I was feel pretty good about one unit that I saw that day. We even started an application for that building on the first day, yet he still was more than willing to put in the work to schedule a second day of appointments based on my feedback of places I had liked the first day. The entire time we were together, and during the decision making process, he never pushed me towards one unit or another. At the end, I decided on the second unit that I saw the first day. Price-wise, it was among the cheaper options, but he never pressured me to choose a more expensive one even though he might stand to make more if I did. I also feel lucky because the unit that I ended up signing wasn''t listed on any apartment search websites like StreetEasy! He also helped me with this place because he told me that shortly after we visited it, another person saw it and wanted to apply for it, but since he had showed it to me and had a relationship with the building owner, he was able to take it off the market if I was willing to move forward with an application. It''s an amazing unit at a good price and I feel so lucky to have found it with Tal''s help. I really felt like he had my best interests at heart all the way through, and I have to say that he won me over with his actions. I have talked with others who unfortunately have had bad experiences with brokers. If you go online, you''ll read about these bad experiences (not with Tal, but with brokers in general). However, working with Tal surpassed my expectations and if any of my friends move in NYC in the future, I''d be advocating for them to consider working with Tal because it was such a positive and productive experience. Especially now during the pandemic when the market has flipped to be very buyer-friendly and the buildings/landlords are paying the broker''s fee, I don''t see a reason not to work with someone like Tal.
